Finished afghan is unraveling

I just finished a lacework afghan 4' x 6', Kramer Summit Hill superwash wool. I put it in the washer, gentle cycle, and started to dry it on gentle also. I just took it out of the dryer and it has a hole in it, about 8" from the end. It probably is where I joined in my last ball, but I am just sick about it. Anybody have an idea of how to repair it ?

Oh my!!! How horrible!!

How big is the hole? Would there be any way to just weave the ends in following the pattern so that it will close the hole? I hate to say the other option would be to rip out the blanket from the end to where the hole occured....and reknit it.

Thanks, Sara Jayne for your compassion. The hole is as big as my fist. I spread the afghan on my floor and it measures 18" from the end, I figure that equals 60 hours work. There is no way I can weave in the ends, so I woke up deciding I will unravel it back to where hopefully I can get all 223 stitches on my needle - again - and carry on. It was so disappointing at first, but I put it in perspective, and realize it's only an afghan. But thanks again for your encouragement.

Oh Mimi! That is to bad that you'll have to unravel it! At least you'll have it finished so you can enjoy it even after the heart ache of it all! Good luck with it & post pictures when you are done!

Do you have leftover yarn that you can repair it with?? I guess that depends on how much of the pattern you lost.
