Dangles, have you made your decision yet? Maybe we could have you start it off and mail it to me.
We need to check out the mail service in the other direction....

Yah, I can do that. Will sport DK work?

Cool Dangles!
So, you're gonna start off our shawl and mail it to me.
You can use
size 8 or 9 needles. DK or sportweight yarn are almost the same, so either will be fine. If you want to keep your needles, just run a thread through the stitches when you finish your section before you mail it to me.
We usually include a
small journal with our projects, so we can write our thoughts as we are knitting. You can get an inexpensive journal, or you can just leave that part out, and I'll add it when the shawl comes to me.
Here's the pattern, which I found online
HERE.
Simplest Shawl in Garter Stitch
This is the basic pattern:
Cast on 3 stitches
Row One - K1, YO, knit to end of row. Turn.
Repeat Row One for every row
This will make a garter stitch (every row knitted) shawl with a row of eyelets along both sides where you increase at the beginning of each row. The advantage to a garter stitch shawl is that it will not curl on the edges.
SO, this means that everyone will be knitting in garter stitch, to keep things simple. No calculations necessary.
Attached is a photo of a completed Oddball Shawl for our reference.
