Welcome to the forum!
To slip a stitch "as if to purl", just slide the stitch over to the other needle, with the right needle going into the stitch like a purl stitch (the two points facing each other).
To slip a stitch "as if to knit", slide the stitch over to the other needle, with the right needle going into the stitch like a knit stitch.
