OTN: Williamette Jacket

Here is the model Williamette.

I like it because it will look cute with black jeans, as well as with a skirt for church!

Almost done! Sleeves are in progress! The fronts and back are knit on one needle
in one lonnnnng 204st row up to the armpits...then fronts and back are knit independently.

The finishing will involve an applied i-cord buttonband, and that goes for the edge of the slash pockets, too. Have never used it for anything...but YouTubed it and found a good video!
A lady was using it to edge a baby blanket! Really nice!

Here is my the body of my Williamette.

Cute pocket application! First time I've used it. It was challenging to "get it" thru my thick head!
Here are my notes so far. The yarn is Berroco Blackstone Tweed, Cranberry Bog.

Won't block it til the sleeves are ready. I'm knitting them in-the-round...and not
sure if I'm going to like the width...and I already know I have to shorten
them to 14-15" at armhole bindoffs (armpit) rather than the 19" in pattern!
So that makes it difficult to work all the sleeve increases in time. When I reach
14", I'll put all of the stitches on waste yarn and try on the sleeve. If I don't
like it...I'll start another sleeve with modifications.

In the round...aaargh...but decided to do it. Casting on just 48st...I had
to use a Hiya Hiya 9" circular, US8. Cumbersome little suckers. Hurts the hands
cuz you're essentially knitting with just your fingers. Ouch. By the time I had
increased to 56...I was able to use my KnitPicks Harmony 16" circulars. Ahhhh.

Also, the Hiya Hiya circulars have a round nose tip...and that made the M1 increases a royal PITA. Total frustration.

Very good looking jacket in an interesting stitch pattern and great color. I like making the sweater in one piece even if it means the slog through 204sts! Thanks for the peek at this project in progress.

It is a nifty way to do a cardigan! There are no side seams to disrupt the pattern stitch! I think I've done 3 or 4 this way: The Calluna, Hallett's Ledge, Faery Ring Hoodie, and the Alaskan Cabled Hoodie, which I had to frog cuz it was miles too big. I worked so hard on it, but really blew it for sizing. Not gauge...I just over estimated the size I needed. When you're not "slim" you can tend to think in terms of TENT, as in size t-e-n-t...

I made the circumnavigated cardigan and it had a unique pocket construction, too.

I read someone's notes over at Rav, for the Willamette...she was saying she liked this pocket design so well she's going to incorporate it into other cardigans that don't even call for a pocket! I've got to agree. It's such a demure pocket, and the placement is very convenient!

I didn't know the Circumnavigated had pockets! What was the style?

I don't have the pattern in front of me, but if I remember correctly you cast on provisionally with enough stitches for the body as well as the pockets. As you knit up in stockinette you decrease at the edge to create the slant and knit the edging of the pocket at the same time.

When you've reached the top edge of the pocket it's time to fuse top and bottom. You fold the pocket back over the front and start putting the stitches for the folded over pocket and the sweater body and knit the edging of your choice. Then you start at the top and do the same. Wow, Dollyce, it's really beautiful! I live in the Williamette Valley (you should hear how folks 'not from here' try to pronounce it, as bad as Puyallup) and will have to make this when I'm done with my twenty-dozen other projects.

As usual, I bow to your wonderful knitting skills, and ability to make changes when needed.

If you ever have another sweater that's way too big for you, let me know, I'll buy it!

Oh my...can't believe I got a sleeve's length right the first time!
Fits perfect! With allowance to stretch the sleeve wider just a tad. Will not be encouraging the sleeve to lengthen when I'm blocking it!

Here she is, all clipped together, which I did for my midnight 'try on' in the bathroom mirror! Will leave her clipped up until the other sleeve is finished...then a final fitting!
