Shawl Collared Vest
I made a shawl collared vest. The last thing I need to do is attach the shawl collar and I have no idea on how to do that! I've just started knitting again after 25 years.

I cannot put in a link due to being new, but if you Google "Shawl Collared Vest Pattern by Kathy Perry" it will show up in Ravelry.

Could someone help me on the correct way to attach the collar? Should the seam be on the RS under collar or should the seam be on the inside of the vest? Not sure what would be the best technique to use to attach it.

Thank you so much for any help anyone could give me.

Is this it? http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#query=Shawl Collared Vest Pattern by Kathy Perry

My first choice for seaming is mattress stitch but another may well be a better choice. Anyhow, I found the pattern, I think, and someone else will know the seaming answer.

GG, your link wasn't to the specific pattern. Here's the link.

Can't help with the seam since I always do seamless.

Welcome to Knitting Help!
I'd put the seam on the RS under the collar so that the collar rolls over the seam and covers it (RS of collar facing WS of vest to seam). You could use a back stitch to stitch the collar (seed stitch) to the body of the vest. Pin and baste it in place to make sure you like the way it lies on the vest and then go ahead and seam.
It's a very neat pattern and it'd be great to see a photo when you finish!

Thank you so much salmonmac
, I thought about it so much I think my brain just gave up LOL. RS/WS makes sense to me too. I'll have to look up "back stitch" I usually use "mattress stitch" it does give you beautiful seams but they tend to be "thick". I can't tell you how much I appreciate your responding to my post. I called the only 4 yard shops in the near vicinity and [b]no one[b] could tell me anything, so much for the old fashioned yarn shops that the owners actually knitted :-)

When you seam with a back stitch, you'll also get a bit of a thickened seam but it works well for this kind of join. You could try abutting the collar and vest since that gives essentailly no overlap area but it's a little more fiddley to do.
