Hi everyone!

I just registered today here, although I have used this website as reference many times....

Would someone advise me as to the number of stitches to cast on for a baby blanket I want to make:
First, I dont have a pattern for the actual blanket.. I have a Vine lace knit pattern, that calls for multiples of 9 plus 4.

Here is the lace design pattern:

Rows 1 and 3: Purl

Row 2: K3 *yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1 Rep from * across, end k1

Row 4: K2, *yo, k2, ssk, k2tog, k2, yo, k1 Rep from * across, end k2

So, Could I c/o say 130 stitches ( 9x14 = 126 plus 4 equals 130) ?
I tried this already and I was not ending with either k1 or k2. It was uneven...

I am thinking somewhere around 40-50 inches wide, bor a baby blanket..

What weight yarn are you using? We'd need to know to help because you'd cast on a lot more if you're using a finer weight than you would with worsted or bulky.

If you're going to begin and end with sts for a border, you may need a few more. That would be a good idea or the edges will curl up; you probably need about 4 or 5 sts at the beg and end of the rows, so you need 8 or 10 more.

You may be forgetting a YO or dec or not doing the YO right. It's just a wrap around the needle, not wrap and knit and k2 that are in the pattern. Cast on about 31 sts to make 3 pattern repeats and work about 12 rows with them. That will give you some practice at it and let you see why it is you're not coming out right.
