buttons on a neck warmer... do I need to reinforce the button hole?

I made a neck warmer based on the Wham Bam Neck Warmer on ravelry but have decided I don't like having it seamed together and pulling it on and off. I thought I'd add buttons instead and jsut push the button through the stitching as it is just garter stitch and fairly loose.

Do I need to reinforce a particular button hole or can I just push it through where ever?

For what it's worth, it is garter row stitch, and I used bulky acrylic (Deborah Norville, really soft!) and used size 11 needles.

I think it'll be fine if you just poke the button thru.
