Chart help for Maude

Hi!

I'm a newbie starting to knit the Maude top:

My problem is that I've never knit off a chart before and have no idea how to continue once the yoke is done. I am at the part that says, "Commence pattern" and I am using Chart A.

Basically, my question is, what do I do???

There’s less boxes on chart A, Line 1, than I have stitches on my needles for the front piece. And what does ‘Repeat’ mean? When do I do it and what do I do??

I have so many questions but if anyone answers, I'll ask those as we go along. Hopefully I will be able to sort through all of this so that by the end of the summer I will have a new top to wear!

First make sure you are looking at the right chart. If you are making an XS or XL then use the first chart A, other sizes use the second one.

It says Continue working from charts for a total of 3 (3, 4, 5, 5) pattern repeats, finishing with round 11.

This refers repeat areas on the chart that are marked repeat. (You repeat it the same as you would a section that marked with * * in a written pattern) So you repeat those areas the amount of times according to the size you are making... do them 3 times for XS and Small, 4 for med and 5 times for large and XL. The other sections are not repeated on each round.

I would use stitch markers, they make charts so much easier. I'd put one after each section and then between each repeat I'd put different ones (just different colors would work). And then do the same thing for the back and the sleeves. (Chart B)

Just to make sure I'm getting it, is this what I should do? (Chart A)

knit, yo, knit ...

Then there are 6 sts that have the word Repeat under them, so I should do what the sts say and then repeat these 6 sts 2 more times or 3 (is it that they are repeated 3 times after the initial knitting or they should be knitted 3 times in total???) ...

Then there is a series of 12 sts, followed by those 6 sts again that must be repeated 2 or 3 times ...

ending with 2 sts. Is that right???

In the Commence pattern paragraph, it says 'Work the same number of pattern sections on each side of the central garter stitch band'. Do you think this refers to the repeats you mentioned?

I'm confused because according to my calculation, I should have 63 sts for the front part but it does not add up to the number of boxes in Chart A. Can you see why that would happen?

I'm really sorry for all these question but I'm really trying hart to understand & it's just not making sense to me! It's really frustrating :noway:
