is this impossible?!

i am trying to cast on for the thorpe hat, a top-down hat. start out with 4 stitches, divide on 4 needles, join, and kfb all stitches.

seriously?

not only am i having difficulty juggling the wobbly 4 needles with one measly stitch, i can barely get my needles through the backs t kfb.

help! anyone! help!

thanks! :)

It might be easier to knit knit flat for a row or two then join and divide. If you leave the tail long enough you can use to sew up that small opening and cinch it tight if necessary.

What I do for tiny COs like that is put them on only 2 needles and knit with a 3rd. Place markers between them so you can pretend they're on 4 needles. After several rows and increases when they get a little more manageable, you can add the 4th needle then the 5th.
