dk or not?

some of the American patterns I noticed use wool that is like 144 -174 metres long. If it is this length does it mean the wool is dk? most of the wool I see in Australia is below 90 m long.This is the Patons range. I once substituted one wool for another and the end result is it was pretty heavy.

How much do those skeins weigh? Is there a gauge on the label that tells how many sts per 10 cm on a certain needle? If the needle is around 4mm, it would be DK. You can't tell the weight of the yarn by just one of those things, it's all of it taken together. I think you use the ply system for different weights and an 8 ply is about the DK equivalent.
