I am wanting to knit a lace cowl and it's just not looking like the picture. This pattern is in the book "Kid's Knitted Hats" desgined by Cabin Fever.

For the material it states to use a light worsted weight yarn. I am using Caron Simply Soft. And it calls for size 6 (4mm) knitting needles.

For gauge it states Approx 5 sts = 4 in over lace pattern.

When I do my gauge I am getting about 20sts per 4 inches. And it just doesn't seem that using a light worsted weight yarn and size 6 needles with give you 5sts per 4 inches.

Is it just me or am I overthinking this.

Also their picture definitely looks like lace. Whereas mine is looking like an open rib stitch. Do I just need to block it?

I have looked on the website for corrections, but there is none for this pattern.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think their gauge should be 5 sts = 1 inch; 5sts/4" would need to be huge needles. So you're right on with it.

Thanks Suzeeq. I have e-mailed the designers to ask this question. Hopefully I will get an answer soon.

Hi, I just wanted to confirm that the instructions are missing a bit, it should read:

Approx 5 sts = 1" or 20 sts = 4" over Lace Pattern
