Help!! my pattern instructions got ripped

My little grand daughter spent the night here and since she is only 2, she thought it would be fun to rip grandma's paper...it has my pattern for an ear flap hat that I am wanting to make... now the list of supplies is missing.\
the pattern says gauge: 13 stitches and 18 rows in stocking stitch = 4 inches. it uses wool and some alpaca
does anyone know what size needles I should use, it is knit flat

13 sts per 4 inches is a chunky weight yarn, or doubled worsted weight. You should use US needle size 9 - 11.... I'd start with 10s or 10.5s. Knit your gauge swatch to make sure you're knitting at 13 stitches per 4 inches, and you're good to go! :)

that's great..I knew a more experienced knitter would know what to do, I was heartbroken for a bit thinking I would have to give up on the hat, I really liked it so thanks to you I can give it a good go :muah:
