I'm trying "Peter" from Berroco.

The following note is included with the pattern:
When changing colors, always hold color to the left and pick up new color from underneath. This twists yarn so there are no holes.
This sounds good in theory, but in practice the yarn strands in my left hand are hopefully twisted before I even finish the first row of the sweater back. Am I reading the instruction wrong? Or will the twists somehow un-twist when I do the purl row?
