Help clarifying "yarn over"

My pattern calls for *YO, k2t.

I generally understand how to do a yarn over and knit two together, but I have a basic newbie question about YOs.

Is a YO just the actual act of bringing the yarn to the front before you stitch, or does a YO actually consist of bringing the yarn to the front, then wrapping again and making one stitch?

In other words, for this pattern, do I bring my yarn to the front, wrap yarn and stitch one, and THEN knit two together normally? Or do I bring the yarn to the front, wrap, and knit two together (with no single stitch between)?

Hope someone can make sense out of that! :??

When just knitting, yo is just bringing it to the front of your work and then knitting the next stitch. I have a book that explains how to do it between purls, a k to p, or a p to k but that's a bit more confusing.

A YO is JUST bringing the yarn to the front and then wraping it around the needle. so for a (YO, k2tog) you would bring the yarn to the front, wrap around the needle and then k2tog.
