I don't know about the rest of you, but if someone had knit this for me when I was a kid, I would have screamed and run away!

I have to agree. Especially the beady eyes. I think if someone gave it to me now, it'd go in a box in the basement.

Yep, I think if someone had given that to me when I was 5 I'd have run and hidden... then a week later it would've been my absolute favorite thing in all the world!
I do have a 5-year-old niece...

I wonder if it's supposed to be "Ookpik"? Back around 1964, there was a comic strip about a little snow owl. That would match up with the mid-60s dating of the pattern. "Ookpik" was the name of the strip, or the character, or both, I think. I always though that the name might be First Nations for "snow owl". Anyone else recall this or have more info?

I just asked an almost 6-year-old what he thought of it and he said it was, "Funny."

LOL I quite like it too... not sure about when I was a kid.. I saw the movie The Birds and I've never been the same about birds since - that looks a bit like a bird. It took me a LONG time to get over seeing The Day Of The Triffids as a kid and not being scared of sunflowers (dont let me near plants when drunk) and I'm totally not sure I ever DID get over seeing Jaws when I was 9 :roflhard:

And I thought I was the only one! I love that guy! Ever played Diablo (the old PC game)? I loved the Balrogs from there too. CUTIES!
