I recently purchased "365 Knitting Stitches A Year"...A perpetual calender.

Being a novice knitter, this calender looks pretty difficult...but I do think that I can learn these stitches over the next several years. One question that has me stumped is that there is always a "Work in multiple of" statement before each pattern. Several examples are "work in multiple of 6 + 1, multiple of 4, multiple of 4 + 2, etc. I do not have a clue what this means in a pattern. I have searched throughout the calender's intro and other pages trying to find out what this means. :?? :??
I would appreciate any help on this.

oh i love this question cuz it is one i actually know the answer to! woo hoo!

Let's take your multiple of 6+1 as an example

the pattern you are going to work (whatever it is) is going to be a multiple of 6 stitches (for example 6x6=36) plus one more stitch. so a total of 37 stitches.

I always see this as an easy way to keep track of a pattern, making it easier to get a "count" going in my head.
