Please help me with this vest...

Can anyone please help me figure this out? :??

Here's the pattern I'm using:

I'm at the part, "Shape Neck," and I'm hoping that someone can break the instructions down into more detail because I'm not understanding it the way it's written in the pattern. Specifically.....when it says , "Cable Patt 9," how exactly do I do that? After that, it says, "Join a new ball of yarn and complete row with second ball." When I'm completing the row, do I just knit the rest of the way across the row?

From what I read, I took it to mean that in this row, you will be dividing the front of the sweater - making the V.

That is why you need the two balls of yarn. One will go right, the other left. The should happen when you are on Row 9 of the pattern. (which is Row 5 repeated, but hey...who's counting!)

You are now done doing the full cable pattern.

Thanks for the reply! Unfortunately, I'm still stuck because when the pattern says: "K 17[19, 23, 27], Cable Patt 9," I undersand that to mean knit for 17 stitches, then follow the cable pattern for 9 stitches, and I can't figure out how I could do this cable pattern for 9 stitches.

The only other way I could interpret this is that I knit 17 stitches, then follow the Row 9 instructions for the Cable Pattern - is that what you meant?

Then, after completing the cable part, I would join a second ball of yarn and knit the remaining stitches in that row?

Maybe I'm making this more complicated in my mind than it really is, but I'm totally confused, so please bear with me! :)
